Baylor University has been located in Waco, Texas since 1845 when it was chartered by the last Congress of the Republic of Texas. It is one of the oldest colleges in the country and has always been a private Baptist university. Baylor is ranked by US News & World Report at the 75th spot on the list of National Universities and is a member of the prestigious Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Now, international students can receive Baylor University scholarships.

About 17,000 students attend Baylor. That figure is comprised of 14,000 undergraduates as well as 3,000 graduate students. They are led by about 1,250 academic staff, who teach and lead 25 different departments. The departments include Aerospace Studies, Anthropology, and Military science.

Baylor is divided up into twelve different academic units where one can earn a degree. The units include the Law School, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, the Louise Herrington School of Nursing, and more. Three of the “units” are colleges, while the remainder are “schools” (with the seminary being the exception). The marketing program, taught at the Hankamer School of Business, was ranked 2nd in the nation by The Princeton Review.

The school’s endowment reached $1.114 billion USD in 2020. The Carnegie Foundation has classified Baylor at the “Research University” status with  “High Research Activity”. As a result of the school’s intense research programs, Baylor was gifted $200 million anonymously in 2010 to further their studies. Some of the endowment goes to fund Baylor University scholarships for international students.

Baylor has produced a plethora of accomplished alumni in many fields, with the help of the dedicated professors teaching their perspective fields. Alumni include Weather Channel CFO Jerry Elliott, American Airlines CEO Thomas Horton, and many more. Alumni have also found success in the arts, as the school has produced winners of Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-award winners such as Angela Kinsey and John Lee Hancock.
