Ohio State University, a public residential university in Columbus Ohio, was founded in 1870. It was the ninth university founded in Ohio as a result of the Morrill Act of 1862 along with a land-grant, and was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. This was changed by Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878, when it was changed to its’ current name. Ohio State is ranked 54th on US News & World Report’s list of National Universities. Ohio State is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, which unites Big Ten Conference schools in research towards medicine, technology, and agriculture.
