Umea University PhD Student Position in Social and Economic Geography in Sweden 2019

The Department of Geography and Economic History is recruiting a PhD student in social and economic geography.

The holder of this position is expected to work within the framework of two ongoing research projects: Mobilising the rural: post-productivism and the new economy (FORMAS) and Grapes of Wrath? Global labour mobility in the wild berry industry affecting rural development in Sweden and Thailand.

The Umea University is a university in Umeå in the mid-northern region of Sweden. The university was founded in 1965 and is the fifth oldest within Sweden’s present borders.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognized test, e. g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent.

Eligibility for the Umea University PhD Student Position in Social and Economic Geography in Sweden:

Eligible Countries: International students are eligible to apply to apply for this position.

Entrance Requirements: Eligible applicants must fulfil the following prerequisites: 240 ECTS-credits of higher education studies of which at least 60 should be on an advanced level (Master level), at least 90 credits must be in social and economic geography or related disciplines, and at least 30 credits must be awarded for successful thesis work in social and economic geography or related disciplines.

Applicants must be proficient in both oral and written communication in English and have proven insight into research in social science. The PhD position also requires oral and written knowledge in Scandinavian languages (preferably Swedish).

English Language Requirements: They also should have good skills in written and spoken English.

In the evaluation, we will particularly consider if the research proposal is written within the framework of the two above-mentioned research projects.
