The position is within the PhD-specialization in religion, ethics, history and society. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand, and the starting date is 1 January 2019.

Eligibility for the University of Agder PhD Research Fellow at the Department of Religion, Philosophy and History Norway:

  • Eligible Countries: The scholarship is available for Norway citizens.
  • Entrance Requirements: To be regarded as eligible for the position applicants:
  • Must hold a master’s degree in archaeology, history, religious studies, criminology, law, political science, social sciences or related fields graded A or B.
  • With PhD projects to be included in the research project “The Lying Pen of Scribes: Manuscript Forgeries and Counterfeiting Scriptures in the Twenty-First Century”.
  • The successful applicant will work in particular with issues related to trade in cultural objects and manuscripts, for instance, questions related to forgery and authentication, ownership and origin, or reception and curation.
  • Applicants are asked to prepare a project description that must follow the application. The project description must be 6–10 pages, including bibliography, and present and discuss research questions, theoretical approaches, work schedule, and methods.
  • English language requirement: For English speaking applicants, a high level of oral and written proficiency in English is required. Applicants from some countries must document their English proficiency through one of the following tests with the stated results:
  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet-based Test (iBT);
  • IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with a result of at least 6.0.

The appointment is made by the University of Agder’s Appointments Committee for Teaching and Research Positions. The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary NOK 449 400,- gross per year. A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
