Settled in 1785 by the Georgia General Assembly, the University of Georgia is America’s oldest state-chartered university. It is the birthplace of public higher education in the United States and is classified as a Public Ivy. The school is ranked 16th overall by US News and World Report’s list of public National Universities and is annually ranked as one of the best value schools in the US. Now, University of Georgia scholarships are being offered to both domestic and international students.

The school boasts over 36,000 students, with the majority being undergraduates. Over 3,000 academic staff lead those students in 140 degree programs. Programs include Consumer Sciences, Forestry & Natural Resources, and Veterinary Medicine. These programs are split up into 17 constituent schools, such as the Terry College of Business and the Eugene Odum School of Ecology. Libraries at the University of Georgia boast 5.7 million volumes, and the school is a part of the Association of Research Libraries.

The main campus is located in Athens, Georgia and is ranked one of America’s best college towns as a result of its great entertainment and music scenes. There are seven additional campuses, with four of them being in Georgia as well (Atlanta, Lawrenceville, Tifton, & Griffon). Three are international locations, with a campus in the middle of Oxford University (England), Italy, and Costa Rica.

The school’s endowment was $1.012 billion USD, a figure that is rising every year. Yearly research awards total about $230 million, which goes towards the variety of programs at Georgia. As a result of their valuable research within studies of atmospheric sciences, the school was elected to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. Part of the endowment serves to provide University of Georgia scholarships for international students.

Alumni have had great success from Georgia. Thanks to the rigorous programs at the university, alumni have gone on to receive the Pulitzer Prize nine times, become 26 different state governors, and produce countless professional athletes, musicians, and more.
