Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship

It is a little-known fact that the invention of the scholarship pre-dates the establishment of the United States. In 1636, Harvard was founded, and shortly after in 1643, the very first scholarship was offered.

Since then, thousands and thousands of scholarships have been established and temporarily offered to students across the world and tracking the exact number is nearly impossible. Scholarships may be provided based on financial need, academic merit, or other factors decided on by the entity offering them.

About Zombie Apocalypse Scholarships

Scholarships do not need to be repaid, and many of them offer several thousand dollars to students desperately in need of assistance with their tuition. As the cost of postsecondary tuition increases each year, students are faced with the issue of funding their education while also covering their living expenses.

Full scholarships, commonly referred to as “full-ride scholarships” are becoming less and less frequent these days, but a few lucky students can secure them. Full scholarships typically cover tuition and fees but will also include other expenses such as room and board, books, various supplies, and sometimes other costs as well.

The majority of students will receive scholarships in smaller amounts that can add up to significant sums towards their tuition. Unigo is a site that posts numerous scholarships available to all kinds of students and teens from all walks of life.

Some scholarships are fun and light-hearted, while others are traditional and focus on more serious essay questions. Scholarships can be awarded based on a number of different criteria, and some are specific to minorities, those with financial need, or allocated based on academic performance.

Finding the right scholarship to apply for can be difficult, however on the Unigo site they have simplified the process by allowing students to create profiles and apply for numerous scholarships throughout the year. Their list of scholarships consistently gets updated, and most students should consider applying for as many scholarships as possible.

Students should also prepare well thought out applications if they wish to be awarded scholarships. Competition is incredibly steep for these free funds, and frequently thousands of students will apply even for smaller scholarships worth only a few hundred dollars. In general, the bigger the scholarship, the more difficult the competition.

It is recommended when applying for scholarships that you review the submissions of previous winners and attempt to submit an application of high quality, but with content that is unique to you. With thousands of other students ap plying for the same funds, being able to stand out in a crowd may be the greatest asset your application could have.

What is the Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship?

The Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship is one of many unique scholarships that challenges individuals over the age of 13 to answer a question in depth about a hypothetical situation. The answers for this particular scholarship are limited to 250 words but must describe a plan that includes essentials for staying alive.

The Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship draws its inspiration from zombie related shows and mentions the popular show The Walking Dead specifically. Fans of the show have binged and re-watched the multiple seasons endlessly, and the fan base is a passionate mix of individuals of all ages and walks of life.

The popularity of the show has also inspired many people to prepare fantastical post-apocalyptic plans, participate in comic-con style events, and start-up websites to share their passion for the AMC produced drama.

While the show has its share of critics, fan sites and social media pages overflow with information about upcoming events, connect fans with other fans, and highlight blogs that discuss various aspects of the show.

With all of this excitement, it is no wonder that a scholarship exists that caters precisely to this fan base which is also appropriate for teens preparing themselves for higher education. The rising costs of higher education are well documented, which has led to an increase in unique scholarships that potential students can apply for to help offset tuition costs.

This scholarship is sponsored by Unigo, a site where many different unique and traditional scholarships can be found and applied for by students. Teens are encouraged to apply based on their interests, needs, ability, and merit among other criteria.

Not all of the scholarships available are as much fun as the Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship which provides individuals the chance to apply for funds without the seriousness associated with traditional scholarships. Instead, these kinds of scholarships encourage creativity, excellent writing skills, critical thinking, and a host of other skills that many teens are eager to use.

Who Won Last Year Zombie Apocalypse Scholarships?

Several surv ivors have won this scholarship, dating back to 2012, and each winning submission has been unique. In 2020, the survivor was Jalicia S. who’s short and concise essay includes vivid emotional phrases, and practical thoughts about the situation.

Jalicia S. is from Decatur, Georgia, and her essay includes heartfelt descriptions of family loss, raw descriptive emotions, and even describes the contents of her survival pack. While the essay is only 250 words, her ability to insert several powerful thoughts is strong.

Other previous winners have taken entirely different approaches to their applications for this scholarship and have engaged in very creative tactics for making sure their submissions stand out. Damien P. from Chicago, Illinois, the 2020 survivor, wrote an original set of lyrics to the instrumental song “My Shot” from the musical Hamilton.

The multi-paragraph submission features uneven lines of thought-provoking lyrics that use non-traditional rhythm. At times the words can be smooth and graceful but feature well-placed disorder that jostles the reader and adds further meaning. The combination of traditional and non-traditional prose is reminiscent of slam poetry, and pop culture song lyrics.
